ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER, CAFÉ MOMENTUM ATLANTA

Café Momentum is a nonprofit restaurant and professional training facility in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia. The program offers a 12-month paid post-release internship for young men and women coming out of juvenile detention. These Interns rotate through all aspects of the restaurant while focusing on the development of social and life skills with a comprehensive case management team. Our team works to transform young lives by equipping our community’s most at-risk youth with life skills, education and employment opportunities to help them reach their full potential.

Summary of Role:

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager (GM) in the daily operations of the restaurant and assists in leading the team to ensure the success of Café Momentum’s mission. The AGM plays a key role in preparing justice-involved youth (ages 15-19) for future employment by helping train them in restaurant service, catering, and essential soft skills. The AGM works alongside the GM and staff to uphold Café Momentum’s standards of service and foster an environment that promotes the holistic socioemotional well-being of the youth in the program.

The ideal candidate is patient, compassionate, and driven to mentor and inspire youth while maintaining excellence in restaurant operations. They should have experience in the restaurant industry and be passionate about addressing systemic issues related to youth incarceration.

The AGM reports to the General Manager and supports the broader team to ensure smooth daily operations, excellent customer experiences, and the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Support:

    • Assist the GM in identifying operational objectives and delegating responsibilities to restaurant and catering staff.

    • Ensure the restaurant is aligned with the Café Momentum model.

    • Actively participate in staff meetings to ensure comprehensive support for interns and staff.

    • Maintain high standards in food preparation and service quality.

    • Help oversee ordering, inventory management, and ensure compliance with safety and health standards.

    • Assist in scheduling and training for non-intern staff, ensuring proper staffing levels for both restaurant and catering events.

    • Support the GM in hiring, coaching, and performance evaluations for restaurant and catering staff.

    • Ensure the restaurant maintains a clean, welcoming environment and adheres to appearance standards.

  • Customer Service & Community Engagement:

    • Assist in addressing guest feedback and complaints, working with the GM to improve guest experience.

    • Help execute guest satisfaction plans based on surveys and feedback.

    • Support the GM in developing and executing marketing, advertising, and promotional strategies.

    • Act as an ambassador of Café Momentum at events and within the community.

  • Financial & Administrative:

    • Assist the GM in managing financial aspects, including payroll, reporting, and budgeting.

    • Ensure timely and accurate completion of administrative duties.

    • Collaborate with the GM and Executive Director on financial projections and budget management throughout the year.

  • Other Duties:

    • Always maintain a professional appearance and communication style.

    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the GM.

    • Must submit to and pass background checks and be cleared for county clearance within 45 days of employment.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • HS diploma required; Associate or BS/BA degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a managerial role within the restaurant industry.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Experience training staff in fine dining or catering environments.

  • Familiarity with catering software such as TripleSeat preferred.

  • Strong commitment to Café Momentum’s mission and ability to work compassionately with justice-involved youth.

  • High tolerance for emotionally demanding work environments.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and ownership of responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated creativity, adaptability, and passion for mentorship.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 6 hours) and perform tasks requiring repetitive motions.

  • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds and perform duties in a hot, humid environment.

  • Work with various chemicals (caustic and non-caustic).

Compensation:

  • Full-time position with night and weekend obligations.

  • Salary: $50,000
