    • How to Hold People Accountable with Compassion

↳ Quick and to-the-point communication, like a good expo during a dinner rush. This one has some very easy-to-digest insights on compassionate accountability. Good simple language can be utilized when holding youth accountable.

    • 24 Reasons Why Mentorship Is Important for Mentee and Mentor

↳ With our Pledge being about hiring justice-involved youth, this one from an employment site seems right. You will notice some of the terms mentioned here again: accountability, encouragement, goals, and source of knowledge. Any mentorship program for youth or professionals related has many of the same core tenets.

    • The Importance of Mentorship: 8 Benefits for Teens

↳ We can flip this one, and it would read the benefits we receive as mentors from the youth we mentor. The teaching I have received from the youth I have worked with has given me much more perspective than I could have gathered alone. I am learning about many of the gray areas in life that I have not even considered before having the opportunity to mentor youth.

    • Mentoring Youth Matters

↳ Points that hit me in this one were a possible link to bullying and mentorship. Having a mentor push just enough to help them move forward is a skill worth honing. Authenticity is tough to work through; the youth will quickly expose insincerity and know if you are just playing the role of a mentor. We must be honest and show genuine care and interest.

    • How My Mentor Helped Me Realize My True Potential

↳ This is from the view of the mentored youth. Points out how it is essential for the mentor to just listen to the needs of the youth. In my experience at Café Momentum, meeting the youth where they are is a great bridge builder. The relationship between the mentor and mentee will come together in time with constant work from both parties. Finding similarities along the way is a benefit of the partnership.

    • 4 Best Practices for Second Chance Hiring

↳ Making second chances hiring part of your culture and not just another check on a list is a win for you and the future employees you will gain.

    • Center for Justice and Economic Development
